Position Overview
The Safety Engineer is responsible for coordinating programs relating to overall Safety and Health compliance, response actions, incident investigation and implementation of company Safety and Health management system and policies. Duties will also include the preparation of site specific safety compliance training programs/modules, provide or work with the Training Coordinator to arrange for required safety training of station personnel, analysis of hazardous materials used or proposed for use at the site, inspections, and participation in accident investigations/root cause analysis of safety incidents, inspections, and audits, and filings under federal regulations.
Performance Objectives
1. Learn the processes and safety practices for the Generating Station - it’s important that you understand how the plant operates so you can effectively implement safety programs and practices. This is a coal-fired power plant. The plant is a hot topic in the community, so safety and environmental compliance are top concerns.
2. Build relationships with the people who operate the plant. To implement change, you have to know the methods that will be effective with those you’re trying influence. This position places emphasis on the people side of safety.
3. The Safety organization will implement a People-Based Safety Initiative very soon.
4. Continue to develop technical skills and safety industry knowledge. The organization supports continued education, conference attendance and pursuit of certifications that are relevant to the position. There is always more to learn when it comes to safety.

Requirements and Preferences
We’re looking for a candidate with five ‘seven yrs (minimum) experience in industrial safety, preferably in a power plant environment (oil refinery or chemical processing plant backgrounds are also welcome to apply).
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (with a focus on industrial safety, EHS, etc., preferred).
Most important of all, you must be able to communicate ideas and procedures effectively to the plant employees and the team.
Willing to travel occasionally.
