EDM Operator Level II

Description

SUMMARY

Programs EDM equipment for the purpose of making dies and fixturing by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

* Studies blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup required.
* Prepares EDM machine and dies for burning process.
* Monitors programming and controls of EDM equipment.
* Checks depth, width/post diameter and visuals or diagram of die before removal from machine.
* Performs daily routine maintenance of EDM equipment.
* Relates information to next shift operator.
* Maintains housekeeping and safety standards in work area.
* Additional duties as requested by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills

* Knowledge of blueprint reading, and geometric tolerancing.
* Use and knowledge of inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, and comparators.
* Knowledge of customer specifications and standards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee occasionally is required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 120 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, and is regularly exposed to wet conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.
